Why a car is a good first modelling + rigging project

Hard-surface forms teach clean tolipology and symmetry without soft-body deformation. A car has obvious separate objects: body shell, wheels, and perhaps a simple cabin. Each wheel needs its origin at the centre so rotation looks right. That is clearer than placing bone pivots inside a mesh character.

    2. Name them clearly: Wheel_FL, Wheel_FR, Wheel_RL, and Wheel_RR.

 

    1. Set each wheel’s origin at the wheel centre (Object → Set Origin → Origin to Geometry, then nudge if the mesh centre is off the axle).

 

    1. Join or parent body parts under one body object so the shell moves as a unit.
    2. Face the car along a consistent forward axis and stick to it for the whole file.

 

Apply Location, Rotation, Scale before the rig

Unapplied transforms are the usual reason wheels wobble or bones stretch. Fix this before parenting or adding an armature.

Ctrl+A checklist (Object Mode, each object):

 

    1. Select the body → Ctrl+ALocation, Rotation, and Scale. Scale is the critical one.

 

    1. Repeat for every wheel.
    2. Open the N-panel → Item. Confirm Scale reads 1, 1, 1 on body and wheels.
